It was so bad, I didn't watch past halftime.
Neither did Michael Heisley, as he left his courtside seat at halftime of this 112 to 83 bloodbath.
And in the end, some of the 5,000 or so fans that made it to the Forum let their displeasure known by booing the team.

My idol and hero, Tom Ziller (Sactown Royalty, The Fanhouse), has done a comparison of O.J. Mayo to the vaunted draft class of 2003 over on The Fanhouse and has come away with some very, very interesting numbers. In comparing the Memphis rookie's numbers to those of Lebron James, Dwyane Wade and Carmelo Anthony, he has ascertained that Mayo belongs in that same company -- he's in the conversation and not just to nod his head occasionally. He used statistics based on scoring, true shooting percentage, usage rate and Hollinger's PER. These showed that O.J. is comparable to the 3 stars in terms of scoring ability and efficiency. This is truly some heady stuff to contemplate. Go check it out and see for yourself how Mayo stacks up. |

Many fans were upset at what they perceived to be a lack of offensive sets being run by the Memphis Grizzlies earlier this year (and most of last year, for that matter). Over on X's and O's of Basketball (great site, by the way), they took a closer look and came up with what this humble blogger finds to be a not-so-surprising conclusion. Not only are the Grizzlies running a particular offensive scheme, but it is the same one that the Phoenix Suns used to run not so long ago. That's right, they have examined the video and come away convinced that the Grizzlies are running the Spread Offense. I'm not here to steal their thunder, so head over to their website to check out the research and details. |

According to the Commercial Appeal, the Memphis Grizzlies waived forward Antoine Walker today. It's being reported that Walker received close to 95% of his $9.2 million salary, which means that the savings the Grizzlies received should be just enough to pay for Darius Miles in the event that they keep him for the remainder of the season. It also means that Walker won't lose any money if he signs for the veteran's minimum with another team. So long 'Toine. |

Apparently we're all Hoopsworld trade rumors, all the time today. The latest offering from them centers on the fact that the Grizzlies are one of two teams under the salary cap (OKC being the other), which means that they can take on a contract without giving up any salary in return.

Hoopsworld is reporting the Memphis and Houston have talked about a potential trade involving Luther Head and Joey Dorsey for Hakim Warrick. Houston vehemently denied the rumor although Luther Head is known to be searching for a way out of Houston where he has no role with the team.

After winning 4 of 5 the Grizzlies went up in the first of the week rankings. The highest ranking being 19. Before the New Orleans game Sagarin had them at 24 (score 85.97) and Hollinger had them at 23 (Score 95.877). How did they fair in the rankings after the NO loss?
